This painting evolved gradually: my first thought was that I wanted to do a very large-scale floral. But it wasn't until I hit on adding the rug that I knew this was where I wanted to go with it. There were many moments as I worked on it that I wished I'd chosen a less ambitious composition, but once it was finished, I was glad I persevered. 30 x 40, Oil on canvas. I really like this one! I love the contrast of the blue and red, and also the dark and lights in the rug, and the style of the rug as somewhat contrasting the style of the vase.
